Before copper took over in the 1960s and 70s, Florida homes were commonly plumbed with galvanized steel: iron pipe dipped in zinc to slow rusting. The zinc works for a few decades. The Symptoms of Failing Galvanized

• Low water pressure that worsens over years, especially at fixtures far from the meter and on the hot side, which corrodes faster.
• Brown or yellow water after vacations or first thing in the morning.
• Pressure drops when two fixtures run at once. The corroded pipe simply cannot pass enough flow.
• Recurring pinhole leaks at different spots. Each new leak signals the whole system is at the same age and condition.
